KANHANGAD: Director General of Police Jacob Punnoose has ordered the police
superintendent to launch a detailed probe into the incident in which hundreds of
youths organised a march here in connection with the Milad-i-Sherif, wearing
army uniform.
The police raided some shops and houses on Wednesday and seized six pairs of
uniforms used by the youths for the parade.
According Army Intelligence sources, wearing army uniform and taking out a march
by civilians are prohibited as per the Indian Army Act.
Intelligence sources said the youths used not only the uniforms of the Indian

shoulders like in the army ceremonial parade.
Sources said training was imparted to the youths in broad daylight for weeks
before the incident, violating the traffic rules.
The police were aware of the march, but they suppressed the information fearing
the Muslim League, they said.
The marchers had also wore medals and caps like military officers and even
sunglasses. It was a clear violation of the Indian army Act, said the
